Description

The 11th Annual Single Fin Showdown is an annual surf and skim festival and has been named one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast for 2019 by the Southeast Tourism Society (STS); the showdown annually attracts more than 150 competitors and 1,500 festival spectators.

The Single Fin Showdown brings the surfing community together, and what started in 2009 with a small group of surfers riding vintage single fin surfboards for bragging rights, has evolved into one of the largest one-day, amateur surf and skim festivals in Florida.

Designed to build community, this event has always served as a way to support various community organizations. "We started the showdown in 2009 as a way to give back to the community. Our focus shifted into growing this contest into a larger, festival-type event in 2012, when a member of our Ohana family, Brooke Thabit, fractured her neck and immediately suffered paralysis. Now 100% of the proceeds raised go toward Team Brooke," said Jordon Schwartz, owner of Ohana Surf Shop.

The contest has become so popular that additional divisions such as skim boarding and standup paddle boarding have been added, but the single fin and longboard divisions remain the biggest draws. It's a crowd pleaser watching the competitors ride a vintage single fin board provided to them at random before each heat.
