Swimming is an essential life skill, and many families are eager to provide their children with the opportunity to learn. However, the cost of swimming lessons can be a barrier for some families. Fortunately, there are four ways for Martin County families to receive free or discounted swimming lessons at the YMCA of the Treasure Coast. These initiatives ensure that every child has the chance to learn how to swim, regardless of financial background. Below we will outline four ways families can take advantage of these opportunities to provide their children with valuable swim education.
Florida Department of Health Voucher
The Florida Department of Health offers free swim lesson vouchers for children ages 4 years and younger (at the time of application) with proof of Florida residency and gross family income of no more than 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. Visit watersmartfl.com to apply.
S.P.L.A.S.H. program
The Children’s Services Council of Martin County provides free swimming lessons for economically disadvantaged Martin County children between the ages of 6 months and 17 years of age. To qualify, the parent or guardian must supply proof of residency in Martin County and income verification (i.e. proof of SNAP, Medicaid or free or reduced cost lunch eligibility). Please visit the YMCA's front desk to apply and register.
Health Insurance
Sunshine Health offers a swimming and water safety lesson benefit that will cover one session of group swim lessons (includes 6-8 lessons) per child per voucher. To enroll, call their member services at 1-866-796-0530. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Once approved, bring your authorization letter to the YMCA's front desk to register for swim lessons.
YMCA Scholarship Fund
