MCSD Reaches Bargaining Agreements for 2021-2022 School Year

The Martin County School District (MCSD) and leaders from the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local #597 and Martin County Education Association (MCEA) bargaining units have successfully completed salary compensation negotiations for the 2021-2022 school year. The ratification process has been completed by each unit. The agreement with AFSCME was ratified by the School Board on August 16, 2022. The agreement with MCEA, which was ratified by bargaining unit-eligible employees on August 30, will be presented to the School Board for ratification in September.

"I am pleased with the commitment to collaboration displayed by our School Board, District team and the leaders serving on each bargaining unit team throughout the negotiations process," said Dr. John D. Millay, Superintendent of Schools. "We look forward to continuing negotiations for the 2022-2023 school year with a focus on student achievement and employee success."

Effective retroactively to July 1, 2021, the starting annual salary for teachers in MCSD has increased from $45,200 to $47,500. Teachers who were earning under $47,500 are receiving an increase to bring them to the new minimum amount. In addition, the District and MCEA have agreed to the following retroactive raises for the 2021-2022 school year based on the results of teachers' 2020-2021 evaluations:

Teachers on Annual Contracts
Highly Effective $2,400
Effective $1,800

Teachers on Professional Service Contracts
Highly Effective $1,200
Effective $900

AFSCME employees who are not "topped out" on the salary schedule will receive a two-step level increase retroactive to July 1, 2021. AFSCME employees who are "topped out" on the salary schedule will receive a 3.5% increase retroactive to July 1, 2021.
