Upcoming Programs at the Hobe Sound Nature Center

There is plenty for your family to do at the Hobe Sound Nature Center. Below are a few of the upcoming programs so mark your calendar and make plans to come out and join the fun.

Python Patrol Class

Saturday, October 19, 2019 10:00 AM -12:00 PM

Python Patrol is a no-cost training program that aims to create a network of trained individuals throughout south Florida who know how to identify Burmese pythons, report sightings, and in some cases, capture and humanely kill the snakes.

Ages 12 & up (must have guardian in attendance if under 18)

ATTENDANCE IS LIMITED and YOU MUST MAKE RESERVATIONS IN ADVANCE. Call 772-546-2067 to register.

What to Bring:

  • Wear pants and closed-toe shoes
  • Wear clothes to GET MESSY and SMELLY due to python musk
  • We will be outside for a few hours so water and sun protection is also advised

National Wildlife Refuge Week

Join us each day for different activities,"Nat Chats" and feedings with our naturalists and crafts!

  • Saturday October 12th, 9:00 AM - Noon - Python Patrol Class

  • Monday October 14th, 9am- Scrub Trail Hike
    Join us at the Nature Center for a Naturalist guided scrub trail hike on the refuge. This is a slow paced short walk, please bring bug spray or sun protection if desired.

  • Tuesday October 15th, 9:30 AM - Nature Tales for Tots Storytime
    Join us at the Nature Center with the kids for story time with puppets and live animals!

  • Wednesday October 16th, 9:00 AM - Beach Dynamics Program
    Join us at the Hobe Sound Refuge BEACH (North Jupiter Island) for a "nat chat" and walk to see what the ocean has brought ashore. BYOBinoculars.

  • Thursday October 17th, 1:00 PM - SEAHORSES!
    Join us at the Nature Center at 1 PM for a Seahorse program followed by our HSNC seahorses and lagoon tank feeding.

  • Friday October 18th, 1:00 PM - SNAKES!
    Join us at the Nature Center at 1:00 PM for a "Snakes Alive" presentation followed by a feeding demonstration of our HSNC Teaching Snakes.

  • Saturday October 19th, 10:00 AM - noon - Ceramics for Conservation
    Join us at the Nature Center for a free craft activity; choose a ceramic animal to paint and take home. (first come first served. while supplies last)

  • Above events are OPEN TO ALL. NO RESERVATIONS REQUIRED (except for Python Patrol). FREE FAMILY EVENTS!

Creepy Creature Feature: Nocturnal Night at the Museum

Join us Saturday, October 26, 2019 for our annual Creepy Creature Feature: Nocturnal Night at the Museum!

Free Family Friendly Event!

Meet Exotic Live Nocturnal Animals* visiting from the Palm Beach Zoo! Also featuring HSNC live animals, face painting, crafts, and games! Costume Contest! Adult and Child categories. Reservations not necessary. Program recommended for families with children ages 4 and up. Adults without kids are always welcomed.

*Meet the animals will be a timed experience as well as the costume contest with times being announced closer to the date**


Night Explorers
FRIDAYS:

  • November 1st  at 6:00 PM
  • December 13th at 5:30 PM
  • January  31st at 6:00 PM
  • February 7th at 6:00 PM
  • March 6th at 6:00 PM

Join the Nature Center for some nighttime stargazing at the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge. Following a brief classroom orientation, naturalist Kim Mohlenhoff will lead the group outside along the nature trail to look at the nighttime sky through telescopes. Learn about wildlife at night and how artificial lighting impacts some plant and animal at night. If weather conditions are not conducive to viewing planets, stars, and constellations, the program will be limited classroom activities only.

This is a free program and all ages are welcomed.
