Featured Silent Auction: Sheriff for a Day, Firefighter for a Day and a Tiger Woods autographed hat.
On Friday April 24, 2015 the Treasure Coast Great Strides Walk will take place at the Indian Riverside Park located at 1707 Indian River Drive in Jensen Beach. Registration will begin at 5:00 PM and the walk will kick off at 6:00 PM. This year, the walk will host a clash between the Martin County Firefighters & Paramedics and the Martin County Sheriff’s Department. The Firefighters will be sticking close to the flames cooking a great family BBQ of hot dogs and hamburgers which they have generously donated, and after the brisk 5K, guests will be treated to a special K-9 unit demonstration from the Sheriff’s Department, compete in some crazy and wacky games as well as rockin’ it out with our DJ and fabulous Emcee Jay Zeager from 95.9 South Florida’s The Palm.
The battle for “Hero’s for a Cure” will be comprised of 5 competitions valued at 10 points a piece:
- The largest team by walk time
- A training-dummy drag
- Who raises the most money
- A Tug of War
- And one surprise competition
The winning team of this battle not only wins the coveted “Hero’s for A Cure” award, but also the bragging rights for the entire year.
Funds raised through Great Strides have driven dramatic progress in the lives of those who have cystic fibrosis (CF). The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation aims to raise awareness about cystic fibrosis, the number one genetic killer of children and young adults in North America. The disorder affects the lungs, pancreas and digestive system and can result in life-threatening infections and premature death. More than 10 million Americans, or one in every 30, are unknowing carriers of the CF gene. The median age of survival for a person with CF is now in the early 40’s.
“We still lose precious young lives to this disease every day. It’s more important than ever that we raise every dollar we can to fight CF,” said Davide Carbone, Advisory Board Chair for the CF Foundation’s Palm Beach office & CEO of St. Mary’s Hospital. “We’re grateful for every volunteer, donor and corporate sponsor who supports Great Strides.”
We would like to thank our local sponsors of Great Strides: Illustrated Properties, Tire Kingdom, Martin County Sheriff’s Department and Martin County Firefighters & Paramedics, and Palm Beach Children’s Hospital at St. Mary’s Medical Center TC Palm.
The event will also feature a Kids Zone sponsored by Macaroni Kid, and the Kona Ice Truck.
There is not a registration fee for this event, but as it is a fundraiser, donations will be accepted.
