Student Artists to Raise Awareness for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

April 3, 2019

House of Hope is inviting Martin County elementary school students to help raise awareness about the National Letter Carrier’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive by participating in the second annual “Stamp Out Hunger Student Art Contest.” Young artists are urged to employ their creativity and talent to design a stamp bringing attention to the issue of facing hunger in our community.

The registration packet contains the 8.5" x 11" stamp template which artists must use with their chosen 2d medium. All entries must be received at House of Hope no later than 4 p.m. (EST) Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Complete contest rules and registration materials can be found online at hohmartin.org/artcontest.

A grand prize will be awarded to each of the two divisions:

  • Kindergarten through second grade
  • Third grade through fifth grade

Grand prize winners will receive a $50 Visa gift card, their artwork printed on limited edition reusable tote bag, and a recognition plaque. All Stamp Out Hunger Art Contest submissions will be exhibited at the House of Hope Stuart Service Center located at 2484 SE Bonita Street in Stuart.

The winner from each category will be determined by the number of “likes” a piece of artwork receives on House of Hope’s Facebook page (@hohmartin) combined with a score from the judges’ panel. The Student Art Contest judging panel will include local notables and a representative from the National Association of Letter Carriers. Submitted artwork will be displayed at the Stamp Out Hunger Kick Off & Art Contest Awards Party May 3, 2019, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM where the winner from each category will be announced at 7:30 PM. The party will be hosted at House of Hope's Golden Gate Center for Enrichment where the entire community is invited to join the student artists, local Letter Carriers and House of Hope for a kick-off party and Free Movie in the Garden at sunset.

The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is the nation’s largest single-day food drive, organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). This annual event provides food to local food pantries throughout the county, and House of Hope is fortunate to be the main recipient in Martin County. Letter carriers will place plastic bags in resident’s mailboxes to fill up with nonperishable food items. Saturday, May 11, 2019, residents place the bags next to their mailboxes where they will be collected by their letter carrier. Throughout the day a team of approximately 200 volunteers help sort the food items for future distribution in House of Hope’s four Client Choice pantries – Stuart, Hobe Sound, Jensen Beach and Indiantown. Stamp Out Hunger provides about 65,000 pounds of food to House of Hope.
