"Music in Our Schools” is March 26th at Martin County High School

March 11, 2019

The Martin County School District will sponsor the 45th Annual “Music in Our Schools” program on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 7:00 PM. The free event will be held in the gymnasium at Martin County High School and will feature performances by elementary, middle, and high school music students.

The program is in recognition of the National Association for Music Education’s (NAfME) “Music In Our Schools” Month®.

The District’s 12 elementary schools will have their choruses perform as one team. Additionally, the choruses and bands from the District’s five middle schools will perform, as well as the choruses and bands from the District’s three high schools. There will be a special performance by the county-wide chorus, “FRIENDS.”

This year’s theme is “All Music, All People” which is NAfME’s way of encouraging schools to support music education in our communities and throughout the Nation.

“Music in Our Schools is time-honored event, for it demonstrates the District’s commitment to educate all students for success” says Dr. Tracey Miller, Chief Academic Officer for the Martin County School District.

“We understand and value the importance of broadening our efforts to reach the needs of each student, whether through the arts, career-technical education, or core academics to include Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs” she adds.

Co-organizer Joe Flanagan, the Assistant Principal at Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School, will serve as the event’s Master of Ceremonies. He has been involved with Music in Our Schools since 1988, when he was the band director at South Fork High School.

The public and the media are invited to attend this enjoyable evening of musical entertainment. The program will provide a special opportunity for members of the community to experience the music education throughout the District’s schools.

Martin County High School is located at 2801 South Kanner Highway in Stuart.
