Environmental stewards to gather for 3rd Annual Paddlefest

May 22, 2015
Land and water lovers alike are invited to the Third Annual Paddlefest, brought to you by Coastal Paddle Boarding. Paddlefest’s mission is to celebrate the love of our local waterways and benefit local environmental groups while using paddle boarding as a catalyst to engage the community. The event will be at Sandsprit Park on Memorial Day, May 25, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Paddlefest will kick off at 10:00 AM following three (3) mile and six (6) mile stand up paddle board races, beginning and finishing at Sandsprit Park. Paddle board trials from Coastal Paddle Boarding are included in the price of the $5 entry ticket. Paddle boarding lessons will also be provided to trial participants during the event by Coastal Paddle Boarding.

Kids can enjoy all day activities including a nature scavenger hunt complete with prizes, an artist tent, a waterways activity tent presented by River Kidz, and all day paddle board photo opportunities. Music is brought to you by the Famous Danger Ranger, featuring the Lucky Dogs Band.

This year’s Paddlefest will be a BYOB (Bring Your Own Board) event. A group paddle at 2 o’clock will also serve as a river cleanup for Sandsprit Park and the surrounding water. “Anyone in attendance is welcome to bring their own board, kayak, or canoe for the group paddle river cleanup,” said Dan Neumann of Coastal Paddle Boarding. “Any vessel that can be paddled is great!” Those who do not have a paddle powered vessel available are welcome to rent paddle boards from Coastal Paddle Boarding for a small fee.

This year’s Paddlefest will also include a Chinese auction and raffle, with items ranging from art to water sports equipment. Coastal Paddle Boarding will be providing a top of the line Rave touring paddle board to be auctioned off at just $5 per ticket. Various food vendors will be also be present.

The proceeds from this Paddlefest will benefit multiple non-profit organizations including: Keep Martin Beautiful, the Martin County Environmental Studies Center, Project L.I.F.T., Dolphin Ecology Group, River Kidz, and Florida Oceanographic Center.

“So much of what we do at Coastal Paddle Boarding revolves around the health of our river and local waterways,” said Neumann. “We are proud to do our part to support these environmental organizations and spread our love of the environment to others.”

Attendees enjoy paddle boarding lessons at the 2014 Paddlefest.
