Let the Frying Begin at the Inaugural Latke Fest, December 7th

November 28, 2014
Looking to add a little sizzle to the holidays? Temple Beit HaYam is hosting its inaugural Latke Fest on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014 from noon to 2 p.m. where Temple members will compete in the ultimate Hanukkah showdown to determine who makes the best potato latke in the congregation. The event will take place at Temple Beit HaYam's Lester Family Social Hall located at 951 SE Monterey Commons Blvd. in Stuart, Florida.

The Temple is hosting Latke Fest to celebrate the potato pancake traditionally prepared during Hanukkah. Also known as the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah is an eight-day commemoration of the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem. The hot oil used when frying potato pancakes celebrates the miracle of an oil supply that was supposed to burn for one day actually lasting for eight days. “Latkes are an important part of the Hanukkah celebration, but you don’t have to be Jewish to love latkes,” said Rabbi Matthew Durbin. "All are welcome to join us for this fun, family-friendly celebration."

The public is welcome to participate in the festivities, which include music, refreshments, gelt, dreidel games and, of course, latkes!  Attendees can also peruse the Hanukkah bazaar for any Hanukkah-related gifts and decorations. The cost to attend is $18 per person or $40 per family. For more information or to register, visit www.tbhfl.org or contact Joni Winnick at 772-286-1531.
