By now you have seen the first report card of the school year so you may be concerned about your child’s academic progress. You may want to hire a tutor to reteach specific concepts, to prepare for tests or to keep your child on task because you assume that your child needs to work harder. However, you should first determine the underlying reason why your child is struggling.

What are the possible root causes of poor academic performance? A learning disability is one reason that a child may struggle in school, but very often it is poor reading and writing skills that are the cause of low grades in Science, Social Studies, Language Arts or Math. Weak study skills and/or a poor attitude may also contribute to poor performance in the content/subject areas. Once the underlying cause of the problem is identified, interventions can easily be designed and quickly set into place which will result in effective instruction and improved academic performance for your child.

How do you identify the underlying cause of your child’s academic difficulties? At Reading Success Learning Center, we help discover the reasons why your child is struggling. We start with a free, no obligation consultation so that we have an opportunity to casually observe your child involved with a learning task. Based on our observations, responses to interview questions, and your child’s school performance, we will suggest assessments that will help identify your child’s specific learning needs.

Our Reading and Learning Specialists will diagnose your child’s deficiencies in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Math and Study Skills by analyzing the data. Next, we design an individual intervention plan that matches your child’s individual needs with appropriate reading material and specific instruction. Then, as we utilize manageable text, teach targeted skills, and set an appropriate learning pace, your child will experience success and achieve better grades. Ultimately, this will increase motivation and may improve your child’s attitude toward learning. We also work with you and your child’s teacher to ensure that your child receives appropriate support at home and differentiated instruction in school.
