Bike Tours and Florida Scrub-jay Walks – Jonathan Dickinson State Park

February 4, 2016
Jonathan Dickinson State Park is pleased to offer the following February programs:

Bike Tours – Wednesdays 4:00 PM and Sundays 10:00 AM. Take a leisurely ride and visit some less visited areas of the park while learning about the park’s unique natural and cultural history. The tour is about 5-6 miles on paved roads and trails, will last about 2 hours, and may not be appropriate for young children cycling on their own.

Meet at Pine Grove Pavilion past Pine Grove Campground. Bikes can be rented at the park’s concession, four miles from the bike start.

Scrub-jay Walks - First and third Wednesday of each month, 8:30 AM. Walk through the globally imperiled Florida scrub and learn about this unique ecosystem and the wildlife that depend on it to survive. Jonathan Dickinson contains one of the largest tracts of scrub remaining in Florida and is home to the endangered Florida scrub-jay, which is often seen in the park. The challenge of scrub land management will be discussed while looking for the endangered Florida scrub jay and other wild scrub inhabitants.  The walk will last approximately one hour and takes place on an old paved road and some sandy roads.

Meet at the Camp Murphy Bicycle Trailhead parking lot located between the front entrance and Pine Grove Campground.

Park entry fee applies for both programs. Comfortable shoes, water, sun protection, and binoculars are recommended.
