Exciting October Events at Hobe Sound Nature Center

October 9, 2015
The Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge and Nature Center invites you to celebrate “National Wildlife Refuge Week,” October 11-17th, 2015. On Saturday, October 10th from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, join naturalist Lis Wight for an EARTHCACHE ADVENTURE. An “EarthCache” is a special geographical location where people can visit to learn about a unique feature of the Earth. Through the use of GPS coordinates and educational questions, hikers will learn about the endangered ecosystems of the Hobe Sound Refuge. Bring your GPS with you or learn how to use one of ours while exploring three distinct habitats.

Whether you are an expert or never tried it before, grab a friend and join us! There is no charge to attend, but reservations are required.

This EarthCache Adventure is recommended for ages 6 and up.

Also coming to the Hobe Sound Nature Center in October is its annual Creepy Creature Feature! The program will be held on Saturday, October 24th beginning at 6:30 PM and is recommended for families with children ages 4 and up, though adults without children are also welcome to attend.

The special guest of this year's Creepy Creature Feature is PROFESSOR CLARK, THE SCIENCE SHARK. Through their four book series, Scott & Karen Lamberson teach students of all ages about the importance of sharks and protecting the oceans. Their latest book features “Reada,” an endangered hawksbill sea turtle in need of help from humans, along with a tiger shark, remora, seahorse and other marine creatures. Books will also be available for purchase and signing. Two presentations are scheduled; one at 6:30 PM. and another at 7:30 PM. Live wildlife displays, crafts, games and other surprises are waiting for you! Reservations are required to attend and must be made in advance . A $3 donation is requested for the event but come dressed in your best "wild animal" costume and participate for FREE!
